Editorial Reviews:

From Amazon.com
Disney had an unexpected hit with this predictable comedy about a smug lawyer (Emilio Estevez) busted for drunk driving and ordered to coach a sad-sack team of hockey-playing kids as community service. The kids triumph over their sundry problems, and Estevez's character grows up a little. End of story. A perfectly harmless movie for kids and adults who are giving their brains a night off. --Tom Keogh

I love hockey and I loved hockey before I saw this movie. this movie did help bring a lot of people my age into hockey to abd a lot of them didn't stay on the Mighty Ducks are a bunch of great kids who will keep kids and adults laughing and even though a lot of the on ice action is corny it is still cool to watch

5 out of 5 stars mighty ducks...   July 23, 2003
I think mighty ducks is a great movie and its really funny. ...

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best!   April 13, 2003
The best thing about this movie is you get to see the HARTFORD WHALERS!!! That actual game against the Minnesota North Stars was rather dramatic. There was four seconds left in OT and the with a faceoff deep in the North Stars end. The Whalers won the faceoff and scored with 1.1 seconds left. Famous Whalers radio play-by-play man Chuck Kaiton went crazy during the call, and is one of his famous ones ever. The neat think is I have it on tape!

1 out of 5 stars The definition of a formula movie.   March 29, 2003
Famed movie critic Roger Ebert stated in his review for this film that it "might have been written by a computer program". That describes this movie perfectly.

"The Mighty Ducks" was perhaps written by a computer, but the actual writing credit goes to Steven Brill. He's the genius who also brought us such cinematic triumphs as "Ready To Rumble" and "Little Nicky". Ugh.

This movie has exactly one single piece of creativity to it. Somebody decided to cast Emilio Estevez as an attorney. I have to admit that such an inappropriate casting decision did get a chuckle out of me. Everything else in the film just disappointed me.

Within the first ten to fifteen minutes of the film, both poop and farting have been used in an attempt at humor. I have become exhausted with the experience of watching films that have the mentality of a 5 year old. Yes, these kinds of movies are geared toward kids, but come on...even kids need something more intelligent and witty than bodily function humor. It shows a true lack of any ability to come up with anything more interesting. It's a sign of desperation.

As far as the plot goes, you already know what it is. A lawyer is busted for DUI and is sentenced to perform 500 hours of community service as a kids' hockey coach. The team is made up of a bunch of kids who are usually snotty and causing trouble. They are terrible at hockey but the attorney turns them into a championship-caliber team in no time at all. THE END.

No humor, no creativity, no romance...not even a warm and fuzzy Disney message at its core. Just nothing but boredom. As a final insult, we all know that Disney actually purchased a hockey franchise and named them the Mighty Ducks as a form of promotion for their movies. Corporate America at its worst!
