A Delight for readers of the John Rebus series August 26, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
People who have read most of the John Rebus series will love this book. Rankin sketches out just how much of Rebus is him and how much is not and what the John Rebus character means to his own thought processes. So it is part memoir, part analysis of the writing process and part exposition of Rankin's view of Scotland and what it means to be a Scot. Rankin said he went back and read all of his Rebus books in preparation for writing "Rebus's Scotland." There are lots of quotes from his own books with commentary that diligent readers of the series will probably enjoy. People who have not read most of the Rebus series are likely to find "Rebus's Scotland" far too self-referential.
