Very bright and colourful with an easy, fun story to follow (and lots of background details to discover on repeat viewings). Small people really, really like this book!

If you want to buy a child who loves books, one book, buy them Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne. It is superb, with great drawings and a funny storyline. Its also educational which teaches children things like: counting, fruits, animals &etc. I'd recommend it to children 7 and under.
A really brilliant book! May 21, 2001 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
ESSENTIAL reading for all Infants - so much can be used from the story - sequencing; names of animals and fruits (we made a fresh fruit salad following our reading); African music;fantastic describing words. Something for every level at the Foundation Stage and KS1.
A delightful picture book, useful at many levels February 22, 2001 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
These pages glow with the heat of the African sun and the pleasure of the children and the mischievous animals that play their parts in the story. Some fruits and animals may be unfamiliar to some children, but they will soon learn, and will enjoy remembering which animal steals which fruit, and what Handa finally brings to her friend Akeyo. This is a very postitive story, good for telling out loud and one-to-one, and, it must be said, useful for the "multi-cultural" element in children's learning. Eileen Browne has again come up with a winner.
