brilliant history of land use July 23, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book is very interesting; i don't work in forestry, but as a countryside type of person it was good to find out how the ecology of modern Britain came about. It concentrates its examples on the south and south east of England, but is useful for playing amateur detective in any area with trees or woodland. it will help you understand why our ancestors kept or destroyed woods, and why the land arround you looks the way it does.
Everyone should buy this book! December 29, 2001 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
Brilliant! This book is so good that i couldn't put it down. As a forestry student i found this too be very useful for at least two of my projects, but this is by no means just a book for the informed. The photos alone would have anyone enchanted. The text is informative and flows so well that you can read several pages without realising that you have. You will be amazed at how good this book really is.
