One of the funniest stories which ever appeared in 2000AD October 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Ace Garp stories haven't been reprinted in many years, so I was extremely pleased to finally find a collection of some of them, here. They were incredibly funny and one of the charms of the stories was the almost incomprehensible, mangled trucking-slang that Ace Garp used. The Ace Trucking Co stories are definitely in the top 5 of all 2000AD stories, given the wild artwork and the brilliant stories - a must-buy.
Fun fun fun! October 24, 2008 Ace Garp was one of the biggest idiots ever to appear in the pages of 2000AD, and this collection does the pointy headed moron proud! Inspired by the CB Radio craze of the early '80's, he's an alien space trucker plying his trade from planet to planet and landing himself - and his long suffering crew - in one bungled disaster after another. Massimo Belardinelli's beautifully deranged artwork suited the strip perfectly and the whole collection is a laugh from start to finish.
Eventually Wagner and Grant - writing under their regular pseudonym of Grant/Grover - ran out of steam and got so fed up writing the strip that they turned Ace into a fairly nasty piece of work and then killed off, but in this collection they were still on top of their form and clearly enjoying themselves. As with all Rebellions reprints the pages are smaller than they originally appeared in 2000AD, but the artwork hasn't suffered in the slightest. In fact the print quality is much better than in some of the other trades they've released - no blurred pages or artwork with half it's lines missing here. All in all Rebellion are doing a fantastic job of bringing these old strips back to life after long years of neglect.
Reading this transported me back to the halcyon days of my childhood... for a few hours at least. Recommended!
