first electric not brilliant cool looking though November 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
this was my first electric shaver the top spec philips
1. says its quick not so, on first use had to go over places a few times had red neck face wasnt irratted though it kept missing hairs on neck and on the face even after going over repeatly. 2. Looks the part though, the build quality is quite good although when my mother saw it thought it looked old. 3.The jet clean is to me a qimmick the shaver is automatically lowered into the solution (5quid 2 fills) it then automatically switches on and fizzes the solution through the heads switches off and on briefly then the drying is not 'active' as described it is a long process it simply drip drys 2hours approx. then it charges 4. can be simply cleaned under the tap quickly which is plus no need to jet clean. tap symbol on mine flashes up all the time could be a fault not sure lol
all in all cant compare it to other shavers its probably good compared to them but my fathers old low spec version seems to have much more torgue and the trimmer is much more responsive than on this modern model. A really aesthetic rather than performance but ok ended up with a close shave just took a while
Design over Substance November 4, 2008 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This Arcitec series of razors has been over-hyped in line with their general performance. For Phillips to boast that this razor gives the best ever electric shave is a gross over statement as it appears to do nothing more than other cheaper products offered by the same manufacturer.
Its general build quality cannot be denied and the razor is, without doubt, aesthetically pleasing. However, this product exudes far more design over actual substance and still manages to miss stubborn beard growth despite using it for over 5 minutes at a time.
The biggest let down of all is the accompanying jet cleaning system. This only worked twice before locking and now refuses to lower the razor into the cleaning solution. When it did work, it took hours to complete the cleaning cycle so a quick rinse under the tap is the best cleaning method to adopt.
Had the full and exorbitant retail price been paid for this product, then it would almost certainly have been returned to the manufacturer. At best it offers an adequate shave but in no way meets the advertising hype. My advice is to avoid the gimmickry and invest in a cheaper model which has the same cutting mechanism!
Damaged skin September 30, 2008 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
It took me ages to shave with this Phillips rotary shaver, and left my skin in a terrible mess afterward. Because I went over and over and over the same place desperately trying to get rid of the hair (an effortless process with a manual shaver), my entire face was red and sore afterward. The next day I woke up with about 50 really small pimples/ingrown hairs. I will not use this shaver again. It is a complete waste of money.
Not as good as a wet shave, but still excellent September 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've only had this razor for 3 days now, but I'm already very impressed with it. Previously I was using a Braun 7000 series razor (which also has a cleaning system), and this is streets ahead.
My skin still hasn't adjusted to the Philips, but it's quite obvious that it will deliver a closer shave more quickly and more comfortably than the Braun. It's not as close as a wet shave, but I doubt an electric razor ever will be. The cleaning system works brilliantly, and on this, the 1095 model, the razor and the cleaning 'dock' are all made from very good quality materials and look good on the bathroom shelf.
The only slight annoyances that I've identified so far are that to use the trimmer you have to detach the shaving head, and that after it's been cleaned the razor demands a couple of hours drying time - annoying if you shave, put it on to clean and then notice that you missed a few hairs and want to go back.
All-in-all a great product, highly recommended - at a good price from Amazon too!
Deteriorating performance August 15, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Initially I would have rated this product quite highly apart from the trimmer which is poor. After about seven months I find the shave is less close than at first and the rubber sheild/cover of the shaving hear assembly is splitting. Disappointed with this very expensive product
