All Aboard the Ferry for Struay!!!! April 15, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I came across Katie Morag and her family at our local library when choosing books with my then 3 year old daughter. Since then her world has become part of ours and we now have a vast collection of stories about life on Struay. This book contains four stories which are easily understood by younger childen as well as the 5-7 year old age bracket they appear to be aimed at. Children will love how Katie Morag is deliciously naughty and adults can laugh at the tongue in cheek humour which the author displays well in Grannie Island and Grannie Mainland's underlying rivalry. Although the main character is female, boys as well would be able to relate to her, as she is a bit of a tomboy and the series of books also includes her "big boy cousins" and little brother Liam. The books are fantastic for taking you away from the fast pace of life children seem to experience nowadays, to a world where childhood is a simple, fun and non materialistic existence. These books will leave you wishing you could board the next ferry for Struay!
We love these books April 1, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am so happy when my son chooses to read this book at bedtime. The stories are great, the pictures are like works of art that you see new things in every time you look at them and best of all we love to put on silly Scottish accents, especially for Grannie Island and Neilly. My son is 3 and we have been into these for at least a year - he now knows them all word for word and I often hear him at 6am shouting 'THE HUTS ARE FLOATING OUT TO SEA!' to himself. And all the best characters have got red hair like my boy which is quite unusual!!
