The plot is good, with a twist ,and the characters likeable but I felt cheated.Too many pages of lurid passion,-to pad out the story perhaps?Wasted paper. Not to be compared with the detailed research and detail of the Gabaldon novels.
Excellent December 15, 2007 After reading hundreds of romance novels by countless authors, I can honestly say it doesn't get any better than this, folks! There are not enough words to express the perfection of this story. After my second readthrough, I am just as enchanted as I was initially. Karen Marie Moning has found the optimim blend of adventure, humor, love and passion that will captivate you from cover to cover, and have you thinking about it long after you're done. You cannot help but fall in love with the characters created in this book...main and supporting alike. Ms. Moning has shown her true genius in this genre by developing a tale that will have you eagerly turning the pages, revelling in it's creativity, giggling at it's humor, sighing at the romance, and panting at the passion! I have read all the books in this series, and whereas they all have their own specific charms, this is the book I will keep on the shelf for easy access and future reads!!!! And if you missed Tino Georgiou's--The Fates--I strongly recommend reading it.
Gabaldon fans - don't waste your money! February 19, 2007 33 out of 41 found this review helpful
If you are a Diana Gabaldon fan you will NOT enjoy this, it is an utterly inferior rip-off. The awful writing veers from inappropriate modern americanisms (Drustan admires Gwen's 'ass') to badly transcribed colloquial speech (the Scottish accents are painful to read), via repetition and predictability. I read to the end to discover the famous 'twist' , but was not the slightest bit moved, and will not be buying anymore of this author's work. Please don't bother either. Save up instead for the next instalment of the Jamie and Claire saga from Diana Gabaldon.
What a discovery.... February 7, 2007 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Bought the book due to its readers'ratings at Amazon & Romance Reader, and coz I had depleted all my recent favorite authors' work. Julia Quinn, Gaelen Foley, Karen Hawkins, Kresley Cole are just not writing fast enough. Julie Garwood, Jude Devaraux, Judith McNaught's recent works are just dull. Nora Roberts is just not my cup of tea.
Thought Karen Moning is just 'another' new author.
My, what a delightful suprise I had. I was laughing out loud from the first chapter at Gwen's mutterings, sighing at Drustan's romantic wooing in 21st century, crying & laughter again at Gwen's wooing Drustan in 16th century, falling in love with Drustan's family, and gasping at the twists & turns of the plot. It was a great emotion roller coster ride.
Karen is definitely gonna be a permanent feature in my library. I will start collecting all her work now, though sadly, I just noticed she has not written that many books a yet. Don't think I need more than a week to finish all her books. It would be excruciating to wait for her future books.
What a discovery. Just loved the book.
If you like Diana Gabaldon's books... November 11, 2006 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I am probably Diana Gabaldon's biggest fan, and I saw this book in my recommendations list here at Amazon. I was a little wary at first, it seemed impossible that I should find two great book series about Highland Scottish men (those of course being my fave blokes!), but I was knocked off of my feet by this book. It's just as good as DG's stuff, and probably even more sexy! Amazing characters and a fabulous plot, I was hooked and couldn't put it down! I definitely recommend this book, and the author's other work!
