I thought this book was absolutely fantastic. its helped my in so many ways being a textiles based student and encouraged me to experiment with lots of dofferent techniques.

For christmas many or my friends and family members recieved gifts made from techniques i learnt in this book. Before buying it, I was a knit one purl one in a rectangle girl and thats as far as it went but now i can do so much more.

It really is a great book for anyone thinking of learning to knit or more experienced people looking for a challenge with new stitches.

20 years ago (in my teens) I was a keen knitter, having learnt the basics (cast on, knit, purl and cable) from a family friend. I found knitting to be a therapeutic hobby...Now an adult with children, I came across a Knit Kit Poncho for for my daughter who is 8 years old. We had fun casting on showing her the basics, within an hour she was knitting away...

I got the knitting bug! I couldn't wait to start knitting again, feeling like a novice I wanted to understand the different types of wool that were suitable for making different garments, also improve my abilities to knit different stitches and create different projects most of all to tackle patterns with confidenence!

I looked at a wide range of knitting books before purchasing The Knitter's Bible. This book is a Bible for knitters, broken down in easy steps with illustrations, references provide on where to obtain wool.

I cannot wait to start the Patchwork Cushion project, an array of stitch patterns to enhance my knitting abilities, I would recommend this book to beginners and experts alike, there is something new to learn for everyone. Great Buy you won't regret it!!

3 out of 5 stars Is it reliable?   August 16, 2007

as a previously garter stitch only person, I was keen to try out some new patterns using a range of techniques I've never tried so I bought this book to help. So far it has been very helpful but with one exception - is it me or do they have the rib stitch instructions completely wrong? You must purl the knit stiches and knit the purl ones not the other way round? This had me undo rows and rows of hard worked stitches after I had eventually given up waiting for the ribbing to magically appear. Reversed the instructions and got my ribbing. Am just worried now that I can't rely on some of the other instructions.

I have only been knitting for a matter of months, but this book was easy to understand and very well set out. A must have for beginner and expert alike. The stitch library is very extensive and fantastic for giving you the confidence to stamp your mark on other designs. Other things such as how to keep a lace pattern correct around the shaping of a garment is invaluable, especially if you are new to to knitting and have no-one to ask!
