5 out of 5 stars Wonderful   January 12, 2006

I first saw this book in a store in America and could not hold back my tears reading it in the store. It tells the simple story of a mothers love for her son. I bought it for my son (even though he is in his 20's) to let him know how much I love him. When I returned to America a couple of years later I bought another copy as the story is so wonderful, children just love it. Tears still fall when I read it. Now my son is going to have a baby of his own and I'm sure he'll be reading it to his child. This is truly a wonderful book.

This book was read by our deputy head teacher to an assembly of infant children today, (it was in "big book" form so that they could all see it). I had never read it before and being a member of staff, I was present at the assembly too.

I was taken unawares by the touching simplicity of the story and found myself fighting back the tears, until I turned to see most of the other adults in the room with tears rolling down their faces.

The story reaches it's audience on a number of levels be you a mother, a child or, as we all are, somebody's son or daughter. It follows a mother's frustration with her son as he grows and changes but shows in a simple way her unwavering love for her "baby". It ends in the same simple way, with the son now returning this love for his very old and ill mother.

The illustrations are beautiful and compliment this story perfectly. Although this is a children's book and really has very little text, I think there are many adults who would love to have this for themselves. So, if you are considering buying this for your child, I would highly reccommend it, especially if you are going to read and share it with them.

5 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS   March 8, 2005

When my canadian sister-in-law purchased this book for me, I thought it was a little odd, until I read it for the first time to my 4 year old little boy. I cried. I thought how silly I was. When I read it for the second time, I cried again. It is so touching. I have lent it to my friend, she cried just reading it to herself. It is my favourite book to read to my little boy, although he has grown out of it now (he's 6 and a half). A fantastic book, lovely illustrations, buy it for all your friends.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best children's books ever!!!!   February 27, 2005

I was given this book when I was a little girl by my aunt, and today now 20 years old I still have my copy. It is one of the BEST children's books ever, never mind what other people say, (you are all entitled to your opinions) but if you can not see what this book really is about then there is something really wrong with you. I will be keeping my copy and reading it too my children when I have them, and I will also be reading it to the children in the nursery where I work for Mothers day, just to show them how much a mother loves their child unconditonally no matter what!

5 out of 5 stars Get the tissues ready!   September 5, 2004
It doesn't matter how often I read this wonderful book, I cry. it says everything about what it means to be a child and a mother, and everyone should have a copy. It puts into perspective the unconditional, yet sometimes tested-to-the- limit love that a mother has for her child and vice versa.
This is a book that will touch all but the most hard-hearted. We all had a mother, and we've all been a child, so give a copy to someone who has known that love. I lost mine when I was very young, but I now have 4 children of my own who have all cried with me when being read this book. How lucky I am!
I now plan to give this book to someone who has just given birth to her first child and who has recently lost her own mother. I hope she loves it as much as I do.
