5 out of 5 stars Great book with appropriate information   October 7, 2004

This is a nice book, well written and describes paddlemaking well. You can read it from cover to cover and then dip in as your paddle project progresses. All instructions and guidance are there as are the very useful templates for shaping the paddles. As a woodworker this book meets my needs but I can also see that it would serve a novice well. I think a bandsaw is pretty essential though but I could see myself cutting out wood with a jigsaw or by hand if I didn't have one. This is a good value book and if you're thinking of paddlemaking I'd recommend this book could do it for you.

5 out of 5 stars Canoe Paddles: A Complete Guide to Making Your Own   August 30, 2004

A lovely book to own, and a good manual to guide you through the process of making canoe paddles. Provides excellent detail on some of the trickier parts of the process and includes a nice range of designs with offsets.

I also bought 'Making Canoe Paddles in Wood', Graham Warren's earlier book on the subject (direct from Graham), and while both books provide all the information needed to make a paddle from start to finish, as is so often the case with manuals, it sometimes helps to see things expalined in two different ways.

I have built two paddles now, am very happy with the results, and am planning a couple more.
