5 out of 5 stars What's Occurring...?   April 10, 2008

This series is comic genius. It simply must not be compared to others that are around at the moment. It benchmarks how comedy should be both scripted and acted.

Everyone plays their part brilliantly. I would not dare find a fault with this series. You simply have to experience the cultural mix of Welsh and Essex familes.

And having experienced both sides of the coin, marrying an essex girl..and visiting Barry in the flesh as it were..the series is very observational.

Watch Series 2, it builds on the foundations Series 1 laid...and just gets better..

3 out of 5 stars I like it but..   April 9, 2008

It really isnt THAT great. I dont really understand the hype to be honest. Yes, it has a certain charm about it.. And Ruth Jones Character is brilliant (Ness) But most of the other actors are pretty dire (the guy who plays Gavin is APPALING!).
I do like it, and i do watch it.. I never laugh out loud or anything.. But i do watch it.

There are soo much better sitcoms though, but Gavin & Stacey, in my opinion, is extremely overrated.

1 out of 5 stars NOT FOR EVERYONE!   April 7, 2008

I bought this DVD on recommadation, but was sadly disappointed! I found it shallow and not particular funny.

It's a very romantic boy meets girl comedy, but the laughts are few and far between. First of all the lead actors lacks the charm to carry it off. I didn't care enough about the chararcters whether they married, divorced or fell off a cliff.

It all rather depends on the supporting cast and the only decent performance you get is from Alison Steadman. The rest just seems to do pathetic parodies on themselves, incl. Julia Davies.

This was just sad to watch!

Would normally find BBC's comedies great ("Two Pints Of Lager", "Lovesoup" etc.), but "Gavin And Stacey" falls short.

This dvd is fab... if you enjoyed the series this is a absolute must have. I laughed as much the second time watching the episodes as i noticed little bits that i'd missed the first time. Class.... I'll definitely be buying the 2nd series too

5 out of 5 stars Tidy!   April 3, 2008

One of those rare shows where EVERY single character is wonderful. There are some truly great actors in G&S, from Ruth and James through to stalwarts Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman.

Plots which are funny, believable and heart-warming, characters who shine and who you actually care about...I really wanted to give Smithy a big hug on a few occasions and I'm a married 42 year old father!

I'm usually one of those kind of blokes who drone on continually about how tele was great "in the old days" and it's very rare for me to truly embrace a "modern" show, but G&S has hooked me more than anything since the Double Deckers! Mmm...maybe The Flashing Blade.

I can't recommend this DVD highly enough. Perfect. Well done, BBC.
