After hearing Duffy live on Radio 2 some weeks ago I have been dying for this album to come out. She has a fantastic voice, and sounded such a lovely, refreshing, down to earth girl I for one wish her all the luck in the world.
Keep yourself grounded Duffy and you will be a favouite for many many years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Classy, old soul music.   February 6, 2008

Its really been a while since I have heard something quite as good, or as special as this. Forget all those silly vocal, pretty, edgyness contests between Duffy, Adele, Winehouse et al, there is no contest. Duffy slips past the both of those two into the realms of the truely classy, smooth and quietly angsty. Duffy has a voice that marks her career out as one that could potentially have real longevity with its old-soul, husky, yet syrupy sweet vocals. Unlike Adele whose 'Chasing Pavements' is nice enough teen fare, Duffy produces a slightly more grown up take on love and lust in 'Mercy' and the heartbreak of leaving a lover in 'Rockferry'. While there is an element of truth in the Dusty/Duffy comparisons, not least because of the distinctive British 60's echoes, no one is quite like the elusive Dusty Springfield. Having said this Duffy is a refreshing talent of her own and a welcome change from the media tainted caricatures (Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen) whose personas smack of assembly line stylistic construction. It would be lovely to see a real talent like Duffy rise beyond a so-called niche listenership ('Mercy' may perhaps border on something resembling the 'commercial'). However possibly part of her appeal is the seeming rawness of songs like 'Rockferry' that showcase Duffy's Welsh pipes without letting them descend into brassiness. A real touch of class!

Not bought the album yet but "Mercy" is fantastic, especially the "Later with Jools" version. Wow what a voice.

Like all the other reviews I can't wait for this to come out - her voice is fantastic and while Mercy is incredible anyone who can't wait for the album release needs to visit youtube because the entry on there of Syrup and Honey is truly amazing particularly because as she's in the recording booth it's an almost acoustic version....what a voice!!
