Product Description
Lachlan Maclean will do whatever it takes to protect his clan–even if it means abducting the most willful woman in the Highlands with the secret intention of wooing her for marriage. A born searing sensual leader possessing brute strength, and an imposing command, Lachlan is unprepared for the beautiful spitfire Flora MacLeod, who jeopardizes his plans to save his clan, and digs beneath his hard, chiseled exterior to expose a tenderness that may be his undoing.

The greatest marriage prize in the Highlands, Flora is determined at all costs to avoid her mother’s fate of being bartered away as a political pawn. Vowing to make her captor pay for his ruthlessness, she boldly engages him in a battle of wills, sweetening the challenge with dangerous passion–even as the lingering curse and deadly ghosts of a past tragedy reach out to thwart a tender love that has yet to be spoken.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful story!   March 25, 2008
I really like the way Monica writes her stories. There aren't alot of frustrating love "misunderstandings," which I hate, in her novels. This is a great, satisfying love story that is rich in historic color. It is really a worthwile book to read.

5 out of 5 stars Highlander Unchained- A Joyfully Recommended Title   March 14, 2008

Flora MacLeod is past the age where many of her peers have married. But one of the reasons for that is that she wants to avoid the fate of her mother. Her mother had multiple husbands, all of whom were not chosen for her and kept her from the things she really enjoyed doing. So Flora has set out to marry Lord Murray who she can wrap around her finger. He is rather a simpering fop, but a friend. On the night they sneak away to elope, they are set upon by bandits and Flora is kidnapped.

Lachland MacLean is desperate. His brother has been held by the king, and it appears the only way he can get him out is to marry the Hollyrood Hellion aka Flora, but he must make it her choice to marry. Add to this one of Flora's step-brothers and Lachland's enemy have taken control of his castle, forcing him and many of his followers to be living elsewhere and he is really not having a good time. After he kidnaps Flora, he is surprised how attracted to her he is.

When Flora fits right in with his clan, it is interesting to figure out who is more surprised. But when she finds out the truth, will it costs them both the happiness they want and deserve?

Wow! Lachlan is one man I would not kick out of my bed; at least if he looks and acts like Ms. McCarty describes him. I was sucked into this third chapter in the MacLeod's of Sky trilogy just as quickly as I was on the first. You know how sometimes by the third book an author appears to be tired of the characters and it is not as gripping as the first book? Well Highlander Unchained is not one of these stories. Ms. McCarty did a wonderful job in describing the hardships, as well as some of the historical details of the times, and built a strong story, plot and characters. I can hardly wait for her next story to come out. In the meantime, I Joyfully Recommend Highlander Unchained.

5 out of 5 stars it's getting hot in here!   February 1, 2008

When I first saw this book, my first thought was it was a rip off of Karen Marie Moning, who is one of my favorites. However, when I saw it at my local library I decided to give it a shot. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

The heroine, Flora isn't some helpless flower, she's willful, clever, mischievous and untrusting of highlanders. The hero, Lachlan is built of steel a man, bound by honor to his clan - but with a tender heart. What struck me most was how sizzling the chemistry was between them. There were also some very spicy sex scenes too. The book did follow the basic formula of most historical romance novels - but I still thought it was an enjoyable read and well written. I'm looking forward to reading more of Monica McCarty's books.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite in this series. Highlander alphamale meets his match   January 11, 2008

I've read the entire series and really enjoyed each book, but this was my favorite. Why? The hero Lachlan was a more well rounded hero who didn't spend most of the book fighting his feelings, which I just loved! The heroine was also smart and quite likable. These two made a perfect couple. I also liked the contrast of a rough alpha male wooing a sophisticated woman who he feels is too good for him, all within the boundaries of her being his prisoner.(Yeah, that does make it a bit tough!) Ahhh, so heartwarming. There is also a tale of a curse, which helps tie the story together and was also quite interesting.

In summary, the hero kidnaps his enemy's younger sister(Flora) with all intensions of wooing her into marriage to seal a bargain with her cousin. Flora is beautiful and independantly wealthy, thanks to her deceased mother. She refuses to be forced into a marriage that isn't soley based on love. Lachlan sets about earning her trust, and eventually her heart, meanwhile losing his heart in the process. There is much back story going on, including his clan and brother being in much danger. This marriage will help free his people and revenge his enemy, if Flora will agree to mary Lochlan. The story was fast, adventurous, and very romantic. The sensuality was very steamy, making this also a hot read. These books can all be read in any order. Highly recommended! Enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Deja Vu?   December 18, 2007

I have read the first 2 books in this trilogy and if I had read this one before the others I might have given it a higher rating. This is because this book and now I've discovered all 3 books are virtually the same book. All that is different is the character names. The author pretty much uses the same dialogue, same descriptions, same love scenes as the previous 2 books. It was quite annoying. Towards the end of this one I was skipping parts and even the love scenes got to be a bit too much. I got bored with them because it was just the same old recycled scenes. If you read these books alone and read them about 5 years apart, then maybe you wouldn't notice how similar everything is. So my recommendation is, read the first book, Highlander Untamed. If you read this one, you've unknowingly read the other 2 as well.
