Product Description
Highland laird Conor McTiernay had always dreamed of an enduring love. But the reality of women who desired him only for his title and lands made him swear off marriage forever. That is until he first set eyes on the Englishwoman his men found hiding in the forest. Beneath the dirt and grime it was clear Laurel Cordell was beautiful. But would she prove to be yet another beguiling seductress or had Conor finally found the one woman who could lay claim to his heart? Laurel trusted that the Scottish chieftain would keep her safe from the cruel laird from whom she had escaped. Looking deep into Conor's silver eyes she saw not only his calculating warrior ways but his quick arousal to passion. But before they can explore the growing desire between them, their newfound love is threatened by secrets from her past...

4 out of 5 stars A great debut for Michele Sinclair!!!   September 1, 2008

What a great story this was. Laurel and Conor are very likable characters. Laurel has always traveled to Scotland to visit her mothers father. However, after the death of her mother, her father forbade her to visit and even after his death, her brother upheld his wish. He would only grant Laurel her visit if she agreed to stay away forever. En route to her grandfathers land, she is ambushed by a clan rival and taken prisoner for a couple of days.
She manages to escape into the arms of our hero and his men and viola a beautiful story evolves. I won't tell too much. As with any romance, the hero and heroine are unknowingly working against one another. What I thought was excellent was the hero being so protective of Laurel (others hated this). Of all the historicals I have read, he was most upfront regarding his feelings. I enjoyed the story and could not wait to start on the second in the series.
To those who slammed the novel, let us take into consideration that this is her first novel. Sure there were mistakes (as with many other authors) but they were minimal and did not sway from the plot of the story. She did a very good job and I look forward to future novels. A very promising debut indeed.

1 out of 5 stars Hannah Howell should have no worries....   January 17, 2008

Her place as highland romance queen is safe. I don't know where to begin with this book. It started out so good and I thought it was going to be a classic, but no. In a matter of 5 pages this book started to crumble. The main problem with this book, aside from the mistakes, is Laurel. She went from hot to cold in just one page. Her constant picking arguments with Conor was enough to make me scream. This happens through the whole book. When she wasn't arguing with him she was having sex with him. That's all. And as someone mentioned before, Laurel, is loved by everyone in Conor's clan, even though half the time she is doing nothing but arguing with their laird. Ugh, this book was horrible. Save your 3.99 and buy another book.

2 out of 5 stars well....   September 28, 2007

I hate being a downer, but while I liked the characters for the most part, I found myself annoyed and rolling my eyes alot.
And the history wasn't very good. EX. the date was in the 1300s (I can't remeber exactly) and he gives her a lukenbooth brooch. Just google lukenbooth and you'll find that they are from the 1700s. I copied this from a scottish jewellery page: "Luckenbooth Brooches are so called because they were sold from locked booths in the Royal Mile, adjacent to St.Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, in the early 1700s, and they were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal."
And there were other moments were I just put the book down and went to something else.
Still there were a few moments that were lots of fun. I liked when Laurel got between her husband and grandfather.
It really needed editing.

2 out of 5 stars A Jewish Princess, not a Scot.   September 3, 2007

The story began well, and I liked Conor, but the story slowly deteriorated with the constant acknowledgments of how perfect Laurel was to everyone. She was adored, pampered, loved, indulged, worshiped by all! She was soft, sweet, vulnerable, beautiful beyond imagination, then she was an army Sargent barking orders at everyone, she did whatever she wanted whenever she wanted, and was too self-absorbed to see beyond her own point of view, she was always right, and she was loved and adored by all throughout it all, then she was afraid again, and soft, sweet and vulnerable. By the time the story ended I was way past gagging. She was a "Jewish Princess" in the worst possible way. A Scot would be horrified.

4 out of 5 stars I find myself bored ...   August 31, 2007

with the premise of man and woman meeting and they can't stand each other but eventually love each other - at the very end of the book. After having sex they say horrible things to each other. If any man treated me or spoke to me in that manner, then our story would cease to continue! But I did enjoy the story - it had a good enough plot and I loved the historical aspect of the details.
