Product Description
Scottish tweed yarn, with its soft heathery colors reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, provides the inspiration for this beautiful collection of 18 knits for men, women, children, and the home. Projects include a cable wrap cardigan, a seed stitch jacket, a simple felted child's cardigan, a delicate and feminine lacy wrapover top, and a shrug. Accessories with Scottish flair include Fair Isle socks, gloves, scarves, and some great knits for the home, such as a Fair Isle throw blanket with Fair Isle stripe, Fair Isle chunky cushions, and a patchwork blanket.

a mixed bag September 15, 2008 Scottish Highland Knits I have just completed one of the sweaters and found the directions to be easy to follow. There are some nice sweaters in this book including a collared jacket for men which as far as I am concerned could be knit for a woman as well. A few of the projects are useless as far as I am concerned, especially the pillows and the tie shrug but there a number of interesting projects and some fair isle patterns that I am going to try out. There are large and small knitted projects which is nice since I am always looking for ways to use my leftover yarns. It would have been nice to see less sweaters in shades of gray but that is just a minor point. The most important thing is clarity of directions and I have found that this book does a good job in that regard.
Uninspired, dull....extraordinarily disappointing January 14, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I (once again) bought this book without seeing it first. I am a Scots American and wanted to knit some things of that theme for family. I just found the patterns lifeless and boring. Page after page, nothing grabbed me. In particular, the colorway used was mindnumbingly drab. Not sure why everything had to be muted and grey; I've been to the Highlands many times and it is a riot of color. I know I can punch up the colorways but I haven't even found a pattern here that inspired me to try.
Please see this book in person before you buy!
Cozy Knits October 19, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was drawn to this book by the cover. Cozy knits are always in fashion and normally so warm that during the winter months I'm enamored with them all. I found the patterns in this book to be well organized, easy to read, and a nice assortment. I don't like the number of scarf patterns (scarves to me are almost a waste to knit). But, there are two jacket patters, slippers and sock patterns that are lovely! This book would be great for any intermediate to advanced knitter.
Cozy and lovely items! September 28, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Scottish Highland Knits is a wonderful book, full of history and patterns. The patterns range from simple to complicated and the photographs are warm and encouraging. I love the colors they use as well and can't wait to start. Patterns appear to be well written and inclusive.
Nice Patterns September 21, 2007 Nice patterns which are easy to understand and vary from beginner to experienced. They tend to be a little more on the "country" side, style wise.
