Finding Magic on a Moonlit Winter Night January 30, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I used this book as an introduction and inspiration for an art project for my kindergarten class. The illustrations are beautiful and convey the magic found in nature during a moonlit winter night. The book is full of cool colors and the contrast of light and dark, the illustrations have hidden forest animals that my class enjoyed searching for - just as the character in the book did. The character of the child is not given a gender, so it is easy for children who are being read the book to slip themselves into the story.

I've just finished reading Owl Moon and rated it 5 stars. This book is about a father and daughter who go owling. The two go into the woods and stay absoultly queit to find an owl. The father makes an owl sound and hears an owl respond back. The two are happy and go home. I liked this book, it was a poetic and gentle story for everyone. The author described the area that itcreated a picture in my head. Everyone should read this book and like it.This book is a great childrens book also.

This is a very interesting book, but hard to understand. I don't think it would be very good for children under the age of ten. Because it is very hard to understand. Well at least it was for me so I don't recommend it.
Rich mellow goodness! October 14, 2004 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
OK, I know that sounds more like a dessert but this book is wonderful! It never fails to bring my second grade students to a calm wide-eyed wondering of what animal they may be able to spot in the illustrations and what will happen. Even though so very little action really occurs, it is described with such depth (and yet in terms the children understand) that it keeps their attention. I love this story for its ability to get children to appreciate the calm, patient and beautiful pace of nature. I think everyone should go owling, or at least have an experience with the natural world that is similar.
