5 out of 5 stars My daughter's favorite series!   November 10, 2006

We first picked up this book along with How Do Dinosaurs Say Good night at the library. My daughter LOVED both of them and was very upset when it came time to return them to the library, so we renewed them. After renewing them a couple of times, we decided it was time to add them to our collection. It's been months and all the books we have in this series are her favorite!

5 out of 5 stars Table Manners & Great Dinosaurs   June 27, 2006

My boys and I love Yolen's How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? so of course, we had to get this book. I have a four year old and an 18 month old. They both love the funny pictures and the subject matter. I like that I get to talk to my older son about table manners when we read this book. I did have to do some research to learn how to pronounce some of the names of the dinosaurs (ie. quetzalcoatlus) but that's OK-- my four year old now thinks I'm a dino expert.

This series is great! I have a 2-year-old nephew who loves dinosaurs right now. This was an entertaining book for the both of us.

1 out of 5 stars Encourages Unhealthy Eating Habits   April 25, 2006

With a childhood obesity epidemic in the United States, the last thing we need is a book that teaches kids to clean up their plates. Though this series of books is generally fantastic, I am terribly disappointed with the eating habits this particular book seeks to instill. Many prominent table problems among toddlers and young children are ignored. Healthy eating and eating until one is full should also be covered, but the author is completely oblivious to modern medical opinions on nutrition and diet. I am dumping this book ASAP.

If you are desperate to teach healthy eating habits, trying new foods, and nutrition choices to your young child, I suggest Eat Healthy, Feel Great by William Sears. As far as table manners go and behavior management go, I am still looking for that book.

Please don't espouse outdated attitudes about eating to one more child!

5 out of 5 stars A favorite   March 21, 2006

We love this book, my daughter is about 2 1/2 and likes dinosaurs (as a result of this book). There is so much detail in the illlustrations (she spends a great deal of time looking at the pictures on the frontspiece, identifying what they're eating).

I'm afraid when her sibling arrives she'll be disappointed that s/he is not a dinosaur, because she really is charmed by the human parents with dinosaur children.

We read the page about "stick beans up their nose" as "smash beans on their nose" in hopes that she doesn't take that page as a cue to stick food up her nose. Since my sister visited the ER a couple times for the food she'd lodged waaaay up her nose.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who's looking for a fun, entertaining, and educational (somewhat) book for any child from 1-6 years of age, and for their parents too.
