Good drawings - amusing - and my 3 1/2 year oldgrandson approves highly. Unfortunately, it hasn't changed his eating habits.
well behaved dinos March 2, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
(I have to write reviews for a class I'm in so here's mine for this book): How does a dinosaur eat all his food? Does he burp, does he belch, or make noises quite rude? All of these questions, and more, are asked in How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen. The book rhymes its way through a variety of ill-behaved dinosaurs in various settings using bright, colorful illustrations to show the many ways that dinosaurs can make a mess with their meals. Each page asks a silly question of how a dinosaur would eat a meal and you may be surprised by the answers provided in the second half of the book. Teague's illustrations, which are big and colorful, add the necessary humor to make sure the story holds the children's attention to give the message of the importance of good manners. Another nice part of the illustrations is that they show a new dinosaur on each page and label it somewhere in the picture. Young children will absolutely love the different mealtime disasters the dinosaurs create: from the throwing of food to sticking beans up their nose. Older children will be humorously reminded of younger siblings and the troubles parents have with getting them to eat nicely. Parents will appreciate the overall message that even dinosaurs eat properly and with manners. Yes, dinosaurs use their good manners when they eat and reading this book will help your own little dinosaurs learn the importance of using theirs.
A winner! February 25, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This one is a winner for both the engaging text and the charming pictures typical of the first in the series, "How Do Dinosaurs say Goodnight?".
Not all in the series are good. For instance, How Do Dinosaurs Count to Ten is a bit of sleeper without the whimisical charm of the others.
My children and I all find "How do Dinosaurs Eat their Food" to be engaging and fun to read.
Great book! February 25, 2006 This book is great! It is humorous plus educational. I do "fear" that my son will look at the dinosaurs misbehaving and get ideas...I love the dinosaur that sticks beans up his nose- just funny illustrations and educational story. Read all the Dinosaur books by Jane Yolen! We own them all!
Dinosaur Books February 24, 2006 My 19 month old son loves the "How Do Dinosaurs?" books. We have "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" and "How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?", and both are favorites. The writing is clever and the illustrations are enjoyable. An added bonus is that the books help to teach appropriate behavior in a fun way. My son loves the rhyming verses and amusing pictures of the dinosaurs. We read this one everyday and still love it!
