OKay November 7, 2008 I think this book would not be good for young children because they might try to be like Sam and run away from home. Besides that it was a very good book and I liked it a lot. I thought that Sam was a very inspiring character, and if someone did try to live off the land they might learn a lot from that book that would be helpful.I would not mind reading that book again at all because it was so good.
bonding book September 19, 2008 What a great trilogy. I have been reading this to my nine year old son who is obsessed with survivor and surviVAL. The vocabulary is alittle over his head (and mine). I find myself reading with a dictionary next to us. We now do falcon cries to each other around the house:) We have been reading well past his bedtime. Recommended to readers 8-108 years old!
My Side of the Mountain Trilogy March 28, 2008 I read this book as a child. Reading this book as an adult brought the inner child back to life. I think everyone thinks of ditching society one time or another. I don't think I could live on Sam's diet or live in the hollow of a tree in real life, but through out the story you feel as if you did. Very few books today can actually make you feel a part of the story. The book also tells which plants are edible in the wild. This book should be recommended for every child to read. So much to learn in it about nature, falcons, plants, and survival itself. Great book.
excellent January 18, 2008 this is an excellent story about a boys' survival on his own and his relationship with animals and the environment. I have been reading these to my 8 year old son and he loves them. He wants to be a falconer when he grows up!
I bought this for my 23 year old son for Christmas...... January 13, 2008 he used to watch the original movie when he was a kid, over and over again. He's been away from home for a few years, working on a ski slope in CO, so I wanted to send him a bit of 'home'. I know it's a kid's book, but he said he really enjoyed it, and has read it several times. It brought back lots of memories. It's been a story that has stayed with our family for almost 20 years now!
