4 out of 5 stars Quite a jump from hosting late night TV   April 28, 2008

This book was a bit of a surprise. Ferguson has a lot of characters, each involved in their own story, none of which are apparently related to one another. Then at the end, he ties it all neatly together. I totally admire an author who can do that. This was a delightful surprise to discover about my celebrity crush, Craig Ferguson.

5 out of 5 stars I wish this book was edible   April 10, 2008

I love this book so much. I haven't loved a book like this since Tom Robbins. Why is Craig Ferguson a talk show host is my question? I want 6 more books from him all in a row. I want to sit surrounded by his words and roll around in them. If the book was a piece of candy, I'd let it sit in my mouth and dissolve and coat the whole insides of my mouth. I want more of Craig Ferguson immediately.

This is beutifully written, but has many characters and a lot of flash backs and sometimes a little hard to follow.

Craig may be the funniest author ever. This book has a quirkiness that will remind you of the best of Carl Hiassen or Jimmy Buffett fiction but with a Scottish tint. I started watching Craig on late night during the writers strike and have become a daily viewer. Love his irreverence. Tivo him and watch with your morning coffee, I promise it will put you in a great mood for the entire day. As good as his show is though, he is an even better author. This book is really brilliant, subversive and at all times hilarious.

5 out of 5 stars Craig Ferguson = Genius   January 18, 2008

I admit, I only picked up this book because Craig is my FAVORITE talk show host EVER. He is witty and pointed, and so funny to watch. But, I wasn't sure how that would translate to a book. Let me say, it translates really, Really, REALLY well.

Craig provides a unique perspective on America, religion and society as a whole. I was constantly surprised at the level of emotion the story elicited. From joy to despair, from amazement to anger, it's all in there. There are many moments to think about, and many lines have stuck with me and have changed how I think about myself and others.

He successfully tells many different stories, and sort of weaves them together, but sort of doesn't. And chronology is clearly not the point. So, if you need a book that is logical in it's layout, this isn't it. But, if you enjoy a story that unfolds like life does, somewhat randomly, than you won't be able to put this book down.

This is my favorite book, possibly ever. I have handed it around for others to read, and given it as a gift, and each person I gave it too not only enjoyed it, but came away with their own messages from the book.

All in all, I COMPLETELY recommend this book, and really hope he writes another. (hint, hint)
