5 out of 5 stars An excellent help for elders   November 29, 2006

In churches of Christ, our ecclesial structure sometimes makes it difficult for us to apply ministerial principles gleaned from denominational books. Our preachers are not 'pastors', but neither are our shepherds. At least, not in the sense that most denominations refer to 'pastors'. There are pleny of books written by preachers and for preachers, but there seems to be a giant gap in the realm of elder-specific literature. Things seem to be improving in that regard, and this book is an excellent step in a good direction. There are articles by several prominent leaders in churches of Christ that deal with many of the challenges faced by elders. This book is written with men in mind who are trying to be spiritual leaders of the congregation, but who might not have ever had formal ministerial training other than what is gained through regular church attendance and involvement. It touches on several areas that most elders will find very relevant, and is a good set of practical ministerial tools. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is in church leadership, and who feels like they could use a little advice on how and what to be doing. Buying and reading it was well worth my time, and as long as it is in print, I plan to buy copies for any elders I ever work with.
