Great book! July 20, 2008 I love to read this as much as I think my son likes to hear it (he's only 1 so it's a bit hard to tell). It's got a great rhythm to it and it's a book that I read almost nightly because I like it so much.
Fantastic read-aloud book July 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great read-aloud book for kids of all ages. My 3-year-old loves it (though I think I may like it even more than she does!) and we periodically get it from the library to read over and over.
The style of the story is perfect for young listeners - the frog starts by eating one small bug, then adds two larger ones, three even bigger, and so on. The rhythm is what makes this book the fantastic read-aloud that it is. You can take the pace slow, then speed it up as the alligator creeps to the surface.
The illustrations are almost beautiful ... if they weren't supposed to be gross - bugs in the belly of a frog doesn't make the prettiest picture! But they sure do try.
This is one of our favorite books so far in the life-span of my 3-year-old, and we have read a lot of books. Take our word for it and try this one out.
Great Pictures February 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the same style as The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly here is a frog that eats too much almost to his destruction and that of the bugs near him. Everyone learns a lesson in this book with great watercolor pictures. My 8 year old son really enjoyed this one. Recommended for ages 3-7 years.
Delightful for all ages January 19, 2008 This book was purchased for my 1-1/2 yr old grandson but is really fun to read, making it enjoyable for younger and older alike. His 4 yr old sister loved it, and the illustrations are detailed and interesting to examine closely. Highly recommended.
Delightful December 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a delightful book that my children adore! I have a hard time getting my children to read any book that doesn't feature trains, trucks/cars, or construction equipment, but no arm twisting with this one. They love the rhythm, rhyme, and funny pictures. This should be a book in every preschooler's library!
