a real workout-for you November 19, 2008 I've had this blender for several years and basically find it messy (the base either doesn't screw on tight and stuff oozes out or you put it on so tight you have to have a gorilla grip to remove it for washing.) To make the experience more "enjoyable," stuff oozes out the top as the cap has a plastic piece that detaches I suppose for cleaning. But most aggravating of all is the fact that it has NO POWER and it takes major muscle (yours) and about 20 minutes (plus the burning smell) to try to make fruit smoothies with 1/2 frozen fruit. It struggles with my oatmeal cottage cheese blend, it struggles with squash soup - for crying out loud! It doesn't do a good job AT ALL of pulling the top product to the bottom for blending and that's where the unfortunate user has to mash and mash and mash the night away.
Me finally make squirrel smoothie. November 17, 2008 Sasquatch have trouble buying blender before so me read much this time. When me get package me know me be happy. Me get lid. Me get sharp thing. Me get thing that make much noise. Me even get glass. Now me have extra glass. Sasquatch happy to say that blender make delicious squirrel smoothie that not have chunks. This very refreshing on warm day. Me happy with blender. Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, Chrome
Great Blender! October 24, 2008 This blender is amazing! It works so well. Crushing frozen berries is absolutely no problem for this machine. With our old blender it was obviously working really hard when we put frozen stuff in it, but with this one you don't even realize that there is anything frozen in it. It just blends so smoothly and effortlessly. It also looks really nice, and I really prefer the glass pitcher to the plastic ones. It is really loud though, but considering how well it works I think it's worth it. Definitely worth every penny spent, and i would totally recommend this to anyone looking for a good blender.
Good performance as long as it was in one piece October 23, 2008 I used the blender for making smoothies and milkshakes for about 4-6 times. Loved its performance. Made excellent strawberry milkshake as it crushed the seeds like a charm. Then it broke. This blender has one of the worst construction and quality i have seen. 2 bolts from inside the blender base came right off. 1 came out and the other one was stuck inside. I could see and hear it moving around when i turned the base upside down. I moved the base only once since i received it and i have taken good care of it. Amazon.com is sending me a replacement and i will update my review after i receive and use the new one.
P.S. Also noticed that the side of the metal blade that rests on the base is rusting after a few washes in the dishwasher. The glass jar cover does not sit properly and little liquid comes out from the top while blending.
Overall I love this product and give it 4 stars for its powerfull motor(crushing/grinding/blending capabilities) , glass jar, price. I would give negative stars for construction and noise.
make sure you get custody of this blender if you and your spouse split up October 22, 2008 Oh sure, I tried other brands, letting the ex keep the old beehive blender when I moved out. We'd inherited that from his parents who'd had since before McCain was born. Workhorse. The blender, I mean.
Big mistake to let that blender go. Tried other brands. Phooey. Finally replaced the beehive. Nothing works like this powerhouse of a blender. Grinds through ice in nothing flat. Smoothies are a cinch. Blends and mixes faster than the food processor. Cleans much more easily. Looks classy on the countertop.
Bonus: the pitcher is one piece: one solid piece of glass: no separate handles, bands or tricky hidden trigger deals in the lid that only sometimes trip the on or off switch ... like the terrible other brand of blender I just threw away.
And who knew you could make Jello desserts in a blender? Dude - you add boiling water to the Jello, crushed ice, other stuff and it sets up in 15 minutes. Shazzam.
