A must have in your cd collection! November 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I got this cd in the mail, I couldn't wait to load it in my cd player in the car! Once I did, I was hooked. This cd is awesome. Duffy's voice is addictive. Try it, you'll like it....no, I mean you'll LOVE IT!
Inspiring voice November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one alblum that I can play over and over. It has been a long time since I have found such an artist. Her style is like the sixties. The song Distant Dreamer is one of my all time favorties you just got to hear it. Great alblum , please make more.

It's been interesting reading the early reviews of this album with so many people expressing disappointment because more of the songs weren't constructed more similarly to the debut single, MERCY. My take is opposite in that I don't listen to the radio much anymore & the stations I DO listen to are either gospel or old school r&b so I never heard MERCY until I bought this disc! I grew up listening to almost every genre of music which has made me more open to different styles offered today and I also enjoy it when young artists reach back for inspiration -especially when the collection is as good as this one!
Although very short (I think it clocked in at less than 45 minutes), this is a very atmospheric, enjoyable collection of songs that does what debuts are supposed to - it introduces listeners to Duffy's voice. Her scratchy/soulful vocals lend such a believability to the lyrics of the songs and is true to the 60's pop/soul sound. The test for this artist will most definitely be her sophomore album - can they produce something original that doesn't lean so heavily on this particular genre/sound & will people accept that sound & her?
Of the 10 tracks, the only two I really felt indifferent about are ROCKFERRY & I'M SCARED. Again, I like the "reaching back to the past" sound of the album & the fact that her vocals match the energy of the material. I would recommend it to those who are enjoying the current offerings of Solange Knowles, Sharon & The Dap Kings, Adele and Amy Winehouse.
Love her voice; hate the songs November 1, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Like a lot of people, I bought this CD on the strength of one song -- Mercy. I've tried to let the other songs grow on me, but after repeated listenings, nope..hate them! Besides, with those pipes why is she singing so many juvenile ballads? I will copy Mercy to my iPod, sell the CD on Ebay, and hope her next one has songs better suited to her spectacular voice.
Duffy is Divine! October 31, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't think I can express how much I'm in love with this cd. From start to finish it draws you in and never lets go. "Hanging on Too Long" is my favorite song but "Warwick Avenue" and "Stepping Stone" are also standouts. Without question the best cd I've listened to all year.
